Group Health Cooperative

The Group Health Community Foundation (GHCF) is a healthcare company serving over half a million clients in Washington and Idaho and also providing insurance. Although the organization’s idea was to “serve as much as possible,” Group Health removed several items from its list of services that the company said were disadvantageous. In addition, she also set a customer limit to adjust her budget.

Organization development history
Group Health Cooperative began its history with the ideas of Dr. Michael Shadid. He became famous after the creation of the first hospital in the country, which was combined with other medical institutions. Michael realized in his own country that serving the poor in the United States should not be different from what other groups do. This was the reason for the founding of the first cooperative hospital.

An innovator who opposed traditional medicine on a fee-for-service basis gave a lecture in Seattle in the summer of 1945, where the idea of a health cooperative began to take root.
The founders of Group Health are people who have little to do with the insurance business, but represent an international association of a working group of people and other social groups, which once again emphasized the original idea of the cooperative movement.

In 2017, Kaiser Permanente Group Health approved the acquisition of a cooperative company. As a result of their merger, a new non-profit organization, the Group Health Community Foundation, was created.

Clients: Patients receiving treatment at medical centers have web access to their medical records, personal email to keep doctors and nurses in contact with all the security measures in place, as well as the ability to view medical prescriptions online and send them by mail to their homes without paying shipping.

The company has a research facility formerly known as the Center for Health Research and now it is the Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI). The center is partnered with the University of Washington and the National Institutes of Health, and the Medical Cooperative also has an online library with several hundred books and several thousand medical journals.
